The conversation for Tuesday, April 12, starting at 7 p.m., is coming into focus.
The venue is set: we will gather at Church of the Resurrection Charismatic Episcopal Church at 5318 E. 37th St North in Bel Aire.
Please RSVP below so we can ensure sufficient seating.
The topic: What is the correct hermeneutic as applied to Genesis 1 and 2? How are we to understand the Creation account? Are the words of Bruce Glass true: “Scientific understanding and spiritual insight are separate realms of knowledge acquired from separate sources”? Is the Bible a science book? What did the authors (human and Divine) intend for our understanding? Is a tight, literal sense the best mode of interpreting these verses? How do you defend the authority of the Biblical text vis-à-vis the 21st century’s natural science establishment?
The presenters in order of presentation: Geoff Boyle, Joel Shroeder, Paul Hill, Don Stockemer, Dennis Vander Griend, Terry Hedrick, Joshua Bitting, Matthew Umbarger, Paul O’Callaghan, and Gary Gensch. Click here for brief bios.
The presenters have been charged to produce clarity of position within a 6-9 minute time frame (allowing for a question or two). Each of them will have time for a brief concluding, summary statement as the evening formally ends. We will pause at 9 pm for those of you who might need to dismiss at that time; however, Erin and I would invite you to stay around the table for an extended discussion with our presenters.
My challenge to you: 1) Be in thought on this topic prior to your attendance. What would you say if you were a presenter? 2) Ask others within your circle of friends/associates to consider attending.
Promote the conversation at work or at church (church bulletin, announcements)? Thank you.
With Erin, I also want to help renew the larger culture. Great Conversations promotes discourse that includes a wide table of viewpoints, in the interest of pressing through until we might get at the truth.
