We recently brought Benedict Hour back for Eighth Day Members. Now we're bringing back Table Talks.
This time, however, instead of a series of lectures, each Final Friday we'll offer a stand-alone lecture, followed by discussion and fellowship. But first, the evening will begin with Vespers at 7 pm (immediately after Benedict Hour...if you're not yet a member and would like to join us, sign up here).
If you are interested in presenting a Table Talk, please contact Director Doom. He'd be delighted to hear from you! Talks should be approximately 15-20 minutes.
To bring this tradition back, Director Doom will present the first one on May 25 on:
The Philokalia: Spiritual Time Bomb & Hidden Fountain of Inner Prayer
Next to the Bible, the Philokalia is the most popular book in the Eastern Orthodox tradition. Although first published in the 18th century, it’s history goes back to early Christianity and it did not gain its popularity until the latter half of the twentieth century. By providing a brief history in this Table Talk, Director Doom will explain how this popular collection of spiritual texts is a spiritual time bomb. And then he will conclude with a brief reflection on its content and purpose as a hidden fountain of inner prayer.
